AFRICAN MASK
One One One meets Rastafrica.
Baoulé Mask. The Baoulé are an Akan people and one of the largest groups in the Ivory Coast, living in the eastern side of Côte d'Ivoire.
According to oral tradition, the Baoulé were forced to leave Ghana, and therfore traveled west to Côte d'Ivoire under the lead of Queen Pokou. In order for her people to cross the river and save their lives, the Queen had to sacrifice her son to the river. Right after losing him, all she could say was "baouli", meaning "the child is dead".
